Hunt for dance groups and young choreographers

September 22nd, 2009  |  Published in Uncategorized

Deadline: 30 November 2009

Youth Dance England is organising an exciting three-night event called U.Dance England 2010, which will showcase the work of dance groups from around the country and YOU are invited to participate.

Groups of up to 20 dancers aged 11 to 19 can apply to take part. Short-listed acts will perform at regional events between January and March 2010, where a panel of judges will select the groups who will perform at the main show, which is scheduled to take place in Birmingham next July.

Meanwhile, YDE is also searching for artists to take part in its Young Creatives Programme 2010. The scheme aims to give young choreographers between the ages of 15 and 19 the chance to develop their skills and create new work.  Those chosen will collaborate with high profile figures from the dance world. Last year’s participants had the chance to present work at the Royal Opera House.

The Dancescape Youth Dance Network

June 15th, 2009  |  Published in News

The Dancescape Youth Dance Network is for youth dance leaders, teachers and young dance leaders in Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire and will be a source of information, training and support. The network can also become a place to share skills, make links with artists and plan projects, should the need arise - it can be whatever YOU need it to be!

The first Dancescape Youth Dance Network meeting will take place on Thursday 18 June 2009, from 4.00-6.00pm and will be held at Solihull Arts Complex, in Solihull town centre. The plan is to rotate the meeting locations around the sub region, and meetings will be scheduled in Warwickshire and Coventry in the Autumn.

The Network meeting will be hosted by Hayley Duffield, Youth Dance Contact and Sarah Jassal, Sub Regional Dance Development Officer, and will include lots of useful items for teachers and artists:
An outline of Youth Dance England’s plans for the next 2 years, including opportunities, events and initiatives
A look into U.Dance and what this entails
A chance to find out exciting plans for dance in the sub region – and a focus in particular on boys dance!

The meeting will be followed by a practical workshop with Dance Artist Marcia Edwards, a former dancer with ACE Dance and Music. Marcia is now a freelance artist and performer, and teaches a lively blend of African and Contemporary Dance. Participants will take away a bank of ideas on new ways to warm up, and how to inspire and encourage creative choreography in the young people that you work with.

If you are unable to attend the Network Meeting, but would like to be kept up to date with the latest news and information, please let us know and we will make sure to forward you the meeting notes.

If you would like to attend, or would like to be forwarded the notes from the meeting, contact Hayley Duffield on 0121 704 6309 or email hduffield@solihull.gov.uk.

If you would like to send any information about forthcoming performances, events and opportunities that would be of interest to those attending the meeting, please email Sarah or Hayley or send hard copies to Sarah Jassal, Dancescape, Solihull Arts Complex, Homer Road, Solihull B91 3RG.
