Develop your cultural offer at “UNconference”

June 2nd, 2010  |  Published in Uncategorized

Dear Colleague,

Are you responsible for developing or delivering cultural entitlement for young people?

This unconference (a participant driven conference centred on a theme or purpose) will consider how strategic lessons can be learnt through frontline delivery from ‘Find Your Talent’ pathfinders and local authorities delivering cultural entitlement across England.

At the event, we will explore the potential for delivering a realistic universal entitlement to culture in a climate of reducing resources. The day focuses on how cultural practice emerging from youth focused initiatives can impact on educational strategy and build resilience within local authority provision for young people.

The programme is participant led, with lots of spaces for reflection and practical tips for future planning.

The unconference is particularly suitable for:

Individuals interested in using arts/ creativity to meet a wide range of local authority agenda for young people

Those with responsibility for young people (youth group leaders, youth workers in community, health and neighbourhood centres amongst others)

Children’s services professionals

Local Authority Arts Officers with responsibility for children and young people

Directors or Senior Managers with strategic responsibility for service delivery for children and young people

Confirmed speakers include ‘Find Your Talent’ pathfinders and a number of local authority departments with responsibility for cultural entitlement however, you as the audience will be key drivers in determining the content and programme of this unconference. There are therefore spaces open for presentations or questions that you might wish to discuss.

We very much hope that you will be able to attend and look forward to hearing from you. Booking by credit card is through mac (www.macarts.co.uk) or if you require an invoice please email

Domenstic Violence and the Arts Conference

April 15th, 2009  |  Published in News

We are delighted to let you know about our second annual conference on Domestic Violence and the Arts. Last year’s event was so well received (”This day has altered my life”; “The whole day was amazing”; “Inspired!; “Fantastic! Absolutely fantastic!”) we simply had to put on another!

If we are to tackle domestic violence as a society, it is crucial that we work effectively and therapeutically not only with victims and survivors but also raise awareness to all adults and children: and that means targeting all our communities and schools.

And one of the most effective ways of achieving all this is through the use of the creative arts. This essential and unique conference showcases how this can happen. We are also proud to be using Derby’s brand new art and film centre – The Quad. A great venue for what promises to be another great day.

We will have live performances of specially commissioned poetry from the brilliant John Hegley and Jo Bell; and specially commissioned music from Belinda O’Hooley (best known as the songwriter and pianist in Mercury Award nominees Rachel Unthank and the Winterset) and Heidi Tidow. Completing our performance line-up will be a drama and a screening of the award-winning film “Leaving”.

Our workshops will show you how you can use poetry, film, dramatherapy, aromatherapy, art therapy, creative writing, drama and dance with not only survivors and victims of domestic abuse (including children), but how it can help you and your colleagues develop your skills and knowledge as well. And how the arts can be used generally to raise awareness within schools and communities.

So, come to listen. Come to watch. Come to learn. And come to terms with what a dramatic difference we can all make in our work and the lives of those people who matter most: the victims, survivors and child witnesses of domestic violence.

We do hope you are able to make it

All best
