COMMENTS FROM THE ARTISTS
Hey Clare,
I really enjoyed the day as did the other lads
it was a really good opportunity to see how we would cope teaching adults and I felt we all did particularly well.
Overall I felt the first workshop was much better than the second one, however I was really impressed with everybody who took part and everyone was exceptionally supportive to all 4 of us
Thank you for the great opportunity

Hi Clare
Yes it seemed to go really well at my end! The main points that were picked up on in my session was the importance of valuing young people’s ideas and expression - and that these can manifest in a whole variety of ways. The work people produced was actually quite conceptual, and people recognised the importance of having objects and provocations to help inspire young people’s thinking. The material’s open ended qualities meant that people began to work quite abstract and had to think about visual ways of representing what they wanted to communicate. I observed groups sharing stories, ideas and opinions on their life experiences and discussed how this could transfer to the young people. One guy commented that with creative work - who you are is most important, and this echoed throughout the groups who shared some interesting ideas. It was discussed in reflection that at the heart of this way of working is enabling young people’s creativity and expressive voice, and that a range of unusual resources caters well for this.
One thing that was discussed was how centres can access materials, and I am going to look into publishing some prices for youth settings asap. If people do enquire it would be great for you to point them to http://www.weaverecycle.co.uk. And one other thing - if it’s not too much of a laborious task could you send me any snippets of evaluation that might be specifically relevant to weave - just if there’s anything you can remember seeing in the paperwork.
Thanks for inviting me to be involved - I’m glad the day was a success!

Hi Clare,
Thanks for all your efforts for WYAN’s excellent Arts day. It’s always good from a networking perspective to have lots of youth workers in the same room and my workshops
lot of questions were written on the green labels
One primary message I wanted to get across was that youth workers need to move beyond questions of internet safety to pro-active engagement with online social networking by seeking out opportunities to use new technologies and to support young people to understand them.
Instead of placing restrictions on young people’s access to social network sites, or seeking to
control the activities young people can engage in on social network sites, we should look to the design of online social networking environments to ensure that they encourage their users to consider, rather than ignore, critical questions about what will happen to information and media they share.
Secondly, in terms of continuation of my workshops that I think we had roughly twenty interested;
Thanks again
