Matilda and Friends – Exploring character through drawing

This summer come along and create fantastically revolting friends, disgustingly horrible teachers or your very own Matilda, all using theatre and drawing techniques. You never know how Matilda may use her special powers and bring your characters to life too…

We will be holding these delightful workshops in Stratford-upon-Avon on the following dates

Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 August 2010, 10am - 12pm. Suitable for ages 11-15. Tickets cost £5 each.

Saturday 4 September 2010, 2 - 4pm. Suitable for children aged 6 and over and their Parents/Carers. Tickets cost £5 adults/£2.50 children.

Workshops take place at Waterside Space, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Arts on our Doorstep is funded by the Central Warwickshire Villages LEADER programme and will enable local people from rural Warwick District and Rugby Borough to experience and participate in exciting and innovative community arts projects. The programme will provide practical advice and support alongside resources up to the value of £5,000 to help local groups and individuals to organise and run arts projects with a particular focus on community cohesion, capacity building and well being.

Dance Development Officer (Job Ref – CXO391) - £23,708 - £27,849 pro rata

Staffordshire Arts & Museum Service is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable individual to take up the role of Dance Development Officer.

You will be responsible for the development of dance to create a robust and sustainable infrastructure, to increase participation in dance across a variety of target audiences, and assist with the development of an innovative and high profile dance programme across Staffordshire.

You will have at least three years experience of working within dance or arts development, demonstrable experience of community dance and a successful experience in partnership working. You will have good interpersonal, negotiation and project management skills and be able to advocate for dance to different audiences.

This is a part time post fixed term for three years at 29 hours per week for the first year and then 22 hours per week for the following two years.

“Performing arts education and training within the UK higher education
sector has always recognised that many of its graduates aspire to
self-employment within the performing arts sector….This project aims
primarily to address the mapping of entrepreneurial educational practice
across UK theatre and drama courses within the HE sector…..The report
seeks to identify the different kinds of curriculum and programme design
employed to address this area of practice and pedagogy, as well as
identifying examples of good practice and innovation. The long term
aim…is to develop a network of key educators, supportive agencies and
professional practitioners, and graduate entrepreneurs willing to act as

The Gold Arts Award has been awarded 35 Tariff points by UCAS. This compares to AS Level qualification C Grade (40 points), Higher Sports Leader Award (30 points) and Music Theory Examinations Grade 8 Distinction (30 points).

Students applying to University for the 2011/12 academic year who have achieved a Gold Arts Award will be able to include it as they would do other subjects when completing their UCAS application form.

The Gold Arts Award is a Vocationally Related Qualification: its strengths are the opportunities it provides for independent learning and the way it facilitates both the development of teamwork and leadership skills and growth in knowledge, skills and understanding of art forms. The award gives young people valuable experiences leading and working with others in the cultural sector, preparing them for the wider world of work and study.

Gold Award participants extend themselves as artists, explore the professional arts world and lead their own arts project. They build their skills as effective leaders and deliver a project to a public audience.
