Warwickshire County Council are giving away 125 recycled computers free to

community or voluntary organisations, including Town and Parish Councils, within

Warwickshire.

The Computers are four years old and each computer package will consist of a Dell

Gx260 desktop computer, with a Pentium 4 2.26 GHz processor and 256Mb Memory. It

will include a monitor, keyboard and mouse, a starter package put together by

Warwickshire County Council comprising of a number of license free programmes

including Open Office 2.0 software. Modems are also available if required. There will also

be an anti-virus software and a firewall or instruction as to how the user can get them free

of charge from the internet. A 3-month warranty is offered with each computer.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Locally based community or voluntary organisations, including Town and Parish Councils.

Small-scale groups who have little or no IT equipment, and can show how it will be used

to grow their organisation.

A response to the search for a lasting memorial to the millions of people who died during WW1 - written for an ensemble cast of 21 young people from King Edward VI College, Nuneaton.  

In An Act of Life the dead are present as part of the contemporary landscape. As generations move forward the meaning of traditional memorials inevitably changes. What doesn’t change is the presence of the living memorials all around us. The performing arts students in this film are all living memorials to the millions of young people who lost their lives.

Make Your Mark has partnered with a live music promotions company Curious Generation to find and support the next generation of music promoters. They’re looking for young people aged 18-30 from across the UK who want support to set up and run a regular, live music night in their home town or city. According to the Live Music Forum’s findings, the live music sector is the fastest growing part of the music industry yet there isn’t a single training course in the UK that provides specialist skills in the promotion of live music.

 They hope that the promoters’ scheme will provide experience, skills and contacts to would-be music promoters, helping develop and expand local music scenes and contributing to community engagement.

The Batty Charitable Trust (BCT) is a grant making Trust. Its income is derived from gifts made by the Estate of the late Christina Batty (otherwise known as Christina Foyle). The BCT will generally support smaller charities in the UK and especially those working at grass roots and local community level. They normally award one year grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 to charities which can demonstrate that such a grant will make a significant difference to their work.

The Irish Youth Foundation supports organisations in the UK that work to improve the lives of Irish children and young people with grants of between £500 and £25,000. Activities supported include employment and training schemes, help for young offenders, educational, social and cultural acivities. Projects funded in the past include promoting Gaelic Games to socially deprived young people in the West Midlands, promoting play and youth provision for young Irish travellers and supporting Irish Arts and Education programmes, etc.

The closing date for funding in 2009 is 5th December 2008.
